The baby room staff team is made up of five practitioners, seniors/junior seniors, nursery nurses and nursery assistants.
This room is for babies aged from birth; children move up to the next room between 19 – 24 months all dependant on their individual development and the spaces available within the next age room.
We can cater for up to 12 babies within the baby room at any one time, under a ratio of one practitioner to every three babies; where possible we like to work with an extra member of staff, allowing us to have an extra pair of hands.
The baby room consists of a reception area, a milk kitchen, a carpeted playroom, a wet floor/messy play area, a cot room, a nappy changing room and a children’s toilet/storage area. Although there is a gate separating the carpet and wet floor area, we operate a free-flow system; allowing the babies to explore throughout both areas. Throughout the room we have various boards displaying photo’s or art work of which the babies have made during their time at nursery. We are also very lucky to have a large garden that is solely for the use of the baby room, which consists of soft flooring, to enable even the younger babies with the opportunity to explore the outdoors.
The garden consists of various areas, including a tactile and sensory area.
Each child is equipped with their own peg and draw so they become familiar with where their belongs are, the children find reassurance knowing where the comforters/dummies and coats are during their time at nursery and are encouraged to use their draws when they have art work etc. that they are taking home.
The toddler room known as ‘Snowies’ can hold up to 24 toddlers at one time, the children in Snowies can start as young as around 19 months and will be moved into the Pre-school room around the time of their 3rd Birthday.
The toddler room is made up of seniors/junior seniors, nursery nurses and nursery assistants. The ratio in the toddler room is one member of staff to 3 under 2’s, and one member of staff to 4 over 2’s.
The toddler room has a large carpet area where the children have the space to play in the role-play area, the cosy corner and spend time playing on the floor space with the toys and resources we have to offer. Snowies also has a large wet floor area. When the children are not using the wet floor area to eat their meals, this is where the messy fun takes place!! The children get the opportunities to take part in all kinds of crafts and messy fun activities.
The children are lucky enough to have their own garden space where they can take their learning outdoors as well as having opportunities to play with balls and other outdoor resources, learning about plants and bugs and other creatures.
We have a small nappy changing room and the children have use of small toilets, potties and sinks. Staff are always willing to support and provide guidance for potty training.
In the toddler room children are still welcomed to have a nap during our ‘quiet time’ after lunch and are provided with clean linen and blankets.
Again, each child is equipped with their own peg and draw so they become familiar with where their belongs are, the children find reassurance knowing where the comforters/dummies and coats are during their time at nursery and are encouraged to use their draws when they have art work etc. that they are taking home.
Our Pre-school room is the biggest of our 3 rooms, holding up to 26 children at any one time. The ratio for this room is 8 children to one member of staff once they have turned 3 or 4 children to one member of staff for the under 3’s.
The room is made up of seniors/junior seniors, nursery nurses, nursery assistants and
apprentices.
The Pre-school room is fully equipped with toys and resources to extend the children’s learning. They have a large wet floor area where the children take part in daily messy, mark making activities and experiments and have a big carpet area where the children have a book corner, a home corner, a big rug area and some tables around the room. This is where the children have time to free-play and use their imagination. Our preschool room also aims to encourage independence and school readiness as the children approach school age, thus preparing them for their next adventure.
The Pre-school room has a big outdoor area that is also used as an extension to the indoor classroom that the children are able to access freely throughout the day allowing them to bring the inside opportunities and learning to the outdoors. They have a big enough space to use the garden to ride the trikes and play outdoor games to develop their physical skills.
Pre-school have their own toilets and potties alongside nappy changing facilities and each child has their own peg and draw for their belongings.
In the Pre-school room children are encouraged to wear our Raindrops uniform; a yellow or white polo t-shirt (logo optional from TopForm Harlow), navy cardigans or jumpers available from TopForm accompanied by trousers/leggings/skirts/dresses etc.
